ATTY. DARWIN P. ANGELES

Mr. Angeles is a Partner at MOSVELDTT Law Offices and heads the Intellectual Property (IP) Department. His practice also covers dispute resolution and data privacy tech law. He is listed as a notable practitioner in Dispute Resolution by the Legal 500 Asia-Pacific.  

He specializes in patent prosecution for computer-implemented technologies, commercialization of IP assets, and IP rights enforcement. He has registered multiple patents involving blockchain, data science and artificial intelligence technologies. He has litigated cases invalidating evergreened patents for lack of inventive step and defended companies from multimillion-dollar patent infringement suits. He has considerable experience in IP enforcement actions in partnership with law enforcement agencies.

In his commercial and construction arbitration and appellate litigation practice, he has successfully prosecuted claims before the Permanent Court of Arbitration, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and Construction Industry Arbitration Commission. 

Mr. Angeles has appeared before the Philippine Supreme Court in high profile constitutional cases. He has represented Retired Senior Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio, Retired Justice, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, the faculty of the University of the Philippines College of Law, human rights victims, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. He also counsels for Nobel Laureate Maria Ressa and other journalists.

He teaches intellectual property law at the University of the Philippines and Adamson University. He is also a guest lecturer for the IP Academy of the Philippine Intellectual Property Office and an accredited lecturer for the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Program of the Philippine Supreme Court.

Mr. Angeles is currently pursuing a Master of Laws degree from Queen Mary, University of London (expected 2023, Chevening Scholar) with emphasis on the law on artificial intelligence and technology, data privacy, intellectual property and its implications on fundamental rights. From July to August 2023, he attended the Oxford Media Policy Summer Institute joining select academics, policymakers, civil society representatives, and tech sector professionals from around the world to address current issues facing the media such as internet shutdowns, tech regulation, and technology-driven misinformation during polls. He obtained his law degree from the University of the Philippines (2013, honors) and holds a degree in Chemistry from the Ateneo de Manila University (2007).
